Artist Corey Hagberg, also know as Crush Entity, will be debuting at Elephant Room Gallery with a solo exhibition entitled “Ephemeral Whiplash” on December 2nd. The exhibition will include mini installations throughout the gallery to create an immersive experience for the viewer rather than a traditional gallery presentation of the artwork. “Ephemeral Whiplash” will include mini collage paintings, drawings, screen prints, hand painted bottles, and other various containers decorated with the narrative of finding a permanent feeling, memory or attachment to that which disappears, including life itself. Visitors can also expect to see special limited edition prints done in collaboration with other artists including CHema Skandal!
In a consumer-based society, people can easily disregard the fact that we create enormous amounts of waste on a daily basis. Artwork has the power of bringing attention to certain issues that the artist is interested in immersing themselves in. “Ephemeral Whiplash” is an example of this as we are brought into Hagberg’s humorous and beautifully weird world. The fleeting nature of expendable goods, our habits, our hobbies and mundane objects are incorporated into Hagberg’s artwork and given a new breadth of life while being juxtaposed against the fleeting nature of life and it’s fragility through the overall installation. “Created from objects leftover from my everyday interactions, I’ve elevated these relics to tell a narrative of loss, salvation, regurgitation, redemption and death.” – Hagberg
Corey Hagberg draws pictures about the comedy involved amongst our collective loss and failure. He is curious about the notion of identity and the internal and external influences that shape it. The triumph of the human spirit and it’s subsequent downward spiral into inevitable doom is a common theme in his art. He received a BFA from Northern Illinois University and also has a graphic design degree. “Street art and murals keep me sane due to it’s immediacy and release of stress that builds up from long studio hauls at the easel or in front of the computer.” – Hagberg
