For Your Eyes Only: Artists as Couples or Collaborators & Erotica by Lauren Levato Coyne & Rory Coyne

Sidetracked Studio opens our next exhibit showcasing artists who are couples but not collaborators or collaborators but not a couple. Additionally gallery co- founders Lauren Levato Coyne & Rory Coyne will reveal their erotic drawings and paintings.

“For Your Eyes Only developed from our celebration of ‘sugar week’,” said Levato Coyne. “In different years but somehow all during the same week in July we met, had our first date, rescued both our dogs, married, and it’s Rory’s birthday. So of course we have dubbed this ‘sugar week’ and by extension we wanted to make a big exhibition celebration of it as well.”

Erotic drawings and paintings by Lauren Levato Coyne and Rory Coyne will be on view on the second floor.

The group exhibition on first floor features:

Reiner Hansen & Chris Leib, Monterey Peninsula, CA – Hansen and Leib are married, and are both painters, but not collaborators. Their works both reference popular culture but in dramatically different ways. Hansen’s through a fracture and reassembly approach and Leib’s through a social commentary lens.

Melinda Whitmore & David Jamieson, Chicago – Whitmore and Jamieson are another married couple who work on their own independent paintings, drawings, and sculptures but they are collaborators in their founding of Vitruvian Studio, a tremendous school teaching traditional methodologies in art.

Lacey Lewis & Jimmie Arroyo, Kansas City, MO & Tenafly, NJ – Lewis and Arroyo, a longtime and long-distance couple, also work independently on their paintings. She is presently working on a series of burlesque dancers in a third-wave feminist context and he works in a traditional portrait and still-life manner.

Ellen Greene & Mario Desa, Chicago – Not a couple in any romantic sense these two have been collaborators for many years. Greene is an artist who creates tattoo inspired imagery about her experiences as a woman and a mother on vintage leather gloves and collages on paper while Desa is a much beloved tattoo artist who specializes in western sentimentality and romantic Americana. Desa is the artist who has tattooed much of Greene’s own collection.
