Arts and culture are an essential part of what makes a Jewish community vibrant and interesting, so I’m excited to share information about the Chicago launch of the Midwest Jewish Artists Lab, starting this fall at Spertus Institute with support from the Covenant Foundation. The program (which was piloted in Milwaukee, Madison, and Minneapolis) works to develop a close-knit community for local Jewish artists regardless of medium, fostering collaboration and deepening individual work.
Ten to twelve artists will be selected to meet monthly meetings to learn about Jewish texts, discuss topics and themes relating to Jewish art, and have opportunities to critique each other’s work. The program ultimately culminates in an exhibition of participants’ work, to be displayed at Spertus in late spring 2016.
All Jewish artists living and working in the Greater Chicago area are eligible to apply. Applications are due August 3.
