On Friday, January 18, 4:30 – 7:30, join ZIA Gallery in welcoming two accomplished artists Michael Cutlip from San Francisco and Kathy Weaver from Highland Park. Both artists are inspired by the uninhibited nature of a child engrossed in creativity. In his mixed-media paintings on panel, Michael Cutlip becomes one with whatever materials are at hand to apply color, make marks and intuitively, yet strategically, collage pieces of vintage illustrations, often resulting in both whimsical and sophisticated rhythms and patterns that amuse and delight. By nature of her process, Kathy Weaver’s approach is more deliberate, frequently applying airbrush on satin or paper, embroidery and a variety of collaged found objects. In addition she directly paints, draws and sculpts combining a wide variety of materials and techniques. Her themes circle through intersections of nature, technology and the human condition. She is inspired by robotics, microscopic life, nanotechnology, and human nature. Both artists evoke wonder.
Michael Cutlip exhibits nationally. In 2012 his work was acquired for the Microsoft Art Collection. Kathy Weaver has work in the Museum of Art and Design in NYC. She, too, exhibits nationally.
The exhibition continues through March 2, 2013. All are welcome to meet the artists at their opening reception, January 18, 4:30 – 7:30. ZIA Gallery is located 2 short blocks from the Winnetka Metra Station.
