  1. For the Love of Art’s Sixth Annual Street Fair will take place this Saturday, August 27, 2011 from 10 am til 5 pm. The fair is held in downtown Whiting, Indiana on 119th Street between Oliver Street and New York Avenue – that is 20 minutes from downtown Chicago. Leon Sarantos will be painting en plein air and his brother John Sarantos will play Native American flute music. There will also be live music from the Steve Flowers band as well as multiple arts vendors, including ceramics, jewelry, painting and other media, with demonstrations on a pottery wheel and a hand-on tie-dye booth for making your own custom T-shirt.

This year author Lisa Tortorello will have a book-signing of her memoir ‘My Hero, My Ding’ chronicling her loving relationship with her grandfather. The second annual Race to the Future, featuring 15 alternative-power vehicles, will take place around the perimeter of the Fair the same day. Both events are free of charge and open to the public.
