Jackson Junge Gallery is immediately seeking artists’ submissions for an upcoming juried exhibition titled “APOCALYPSE 2012 : GENESIS 2013”.   It is a common belief that both Nostradamus and the Mayan Calendar predict 2012 as the year that life, as we currently know it, will come to an end.  If these doomsday predictions were to become a reality, the dawn of a new era would be upon us.

Artists in all media are encouraged to submit any work, or sketches and supporting documentation for proposals of future work, that gives their artistic interpretation of what this apocalypse would look like or, more importantly, looking forward to what a new world might resemble.  Some occurring themes might include:

- New Relationships/Attitudes Between People of the World

- Changes in Communication

- Political Revolution

- A Change in Environment or Atmosphere

- The Anticipated New Landscape or Architecture

Any interpretive pieces with environmental, moral, political or socially relevant tones will be welcomed.   Priority and preference will be given to new works of art.  This exhibit will begin in September of 2012 and run in conjunction with Chicago Artist Month.

Shot Images is pleased to present the first retrospective of work by acclaimed British photographer Michael Ward since his death in April 2011. Known for his prolific body of documentary photography work of musicians, actors, writers and other Pop icons of the 20th century, his subjects range widely from The Beatles to Margaret Thatcher, the Rolling Stones to Michael Caine, Queen Elizabeth to David Hockney.

Michael Ward worked for many prestigious British newspapers and magazines, including The Evening Standard and The Sunday Times, and frequently exhibited at notable galleries and museums, including the National Portrait Gallery and the Victoria and Albert museum.  When working, he often shot areas of conflict abroad, focusing on the 1968 student riots in Paris, troubles in Northern Ireland, and the Turkish invasion of Cyprus. Yet many of his most moving images show the beauty and simplicity in everyday life in London. Within relaxed environments he brilliantly captured the creative energy of some of Britain’s most well respected artistic minds. His oeuvre presents a great multitude of sensual experiences, relationships, and perspectives on the intricacies of British culture through the 1960s, 70s, and 80s.

This exhibition will highlight works from 1963 through 1987. There are shots of life in the street in London, politicians under fire, irreverent self-portraits, as well as seldom viewed photographs of the Beatles, Rolling Stones and many leading social and theatrical figures of the day. His work subtly shines light on racial tensions, urban decay, and wealth inequalities in a time of great social upheaval in Europe. One of his favorite subjects was his wife Elizabeth Seal, an accomplished actor and dancer who won a Tony Award for her role as Irma, in “Irma la Douce” on Broadway in 1961. Elizabeth will be present for the opening.

Shot Images is a newly opened gallery located in Niles, Illinois. We focus on promoting work by emerging and established photographers, and providing our clients with the highest quality, limited edition archival photographic prints.

This portrait painting continues my push to use high contrasts of light and dark to present a quickly readable abstract pattern, which in turn contains realistic details and modeling in the shaded and highlighted areas.

The exhibit,The Struggle For Art IV, is at the CornerStone Art Center, in the Centier Bank Building, 1500 119th Street, Whiting, Indiana. This exhibit is being held with 119th Street Artists, with curator, Jim Panos. The gallery is located 30 minutes outside of Chicago in NW Indiana in the Historic Downtown District of Whiting, Indiana.

“Involuntary. Loss(y). Privacy” is a timely compilation of drawings, paintings and mixed media that looks at the ways in which we are unintentionally identified/identifiable by data that is collected, captured and stored on the internet. Recent events in the national news media remind us of just how powerful a single fleeting image and profile can be in determining whether one is labeled menace or martyr. Stephen Flemister and Julian Williams are deeply invested in using portrait painting as a vehicle for exploring this duality. Both artists start with digital imagery of unknown Black subjects pulled from Department of Corrections mug shots as their source material but arrive at very different conceptual places in the work produced.

Eligibility: All photographic works are acceptable, providing the works were originally photographed by the artist. Categories of photographs will be as follows: Architecture, Animals, Black & White, Floral, Landscape, Portrait, Photo Montage, and Transformed (Digitally Altered Photos). Selection will be made from a CD only, image size minimum is 1200 pixels.
