Opening Reception

Thursday March 15, 2012 · 5-7 pm

Bert Green Fine Art
8 S. Michigan Ave. Suite 1220
Chicago IL 60603
http://www.bgfa.us

Gallery Hours

Wednesday-Friday 11-6 · Saturday 12-5
(note revised gallery hours)

Bert Green Fine Art is pleased to present Jen Heaslip’s fourth solo show, and the first ever solo exhibition at our new Chicago gallery space.

Heaslip is a painter of the nude male form; her figures are alluring: mysterious, shadowy, grounded and earthy. Via a dark, almost monocolor palette, these men posit their existence as impassioned participants in the circle of life. The artist has provided no written statement explaining the work — it is meant to be experienced entirely as a visual experience with no mediation, no explanation, no guides. Accompanying the figurative works are a series of very small-scale skyscapes.

There will be an opening reception on Thursday, March 15 from 5-7 pm at the gallery. Gallery hours are Wednesday-Friday 11-6 and Saturday 12-5, or by appointment at other times. (Note revised gallery hours).

A two-person exhibition featuring HATCH Project artists Daniel Giordan and Carole Hennessy Curated by Teresa Silva.

Opening Reception: February 17, 6-9pm Show runs February 17-March 6, 2012

Nearly four years after the 2008 financial crisis, we continue to experience the upheaval and setbacks that it has imposed, namely on the housing industry. Shuttered and overturned properties have destabilized our fixed meaning of the home’s sense of security and intimacy. HITS CLOSE TO HOME investigates the notions of house and home and their shifting cultural significance in our contemporary moment. Dan Giordan and Carole Hennessy re-present these concepts with image and text and through various materials and processes, to reconsider both the social unit’s fragility and persistence to embody our intimate lives.

Daniel Giordan has shown his work in galleries, museums, and universities throughout the United States. Through a combination of painting, digital imaging, and mixed media montage, His evocative images resonate on a personal level, while exploring the nature of photography, figuration, and digital image making. Dan lives in the Chicago area, and has a studio in Bartlett, IL.

Carole Hennessy has been involved with watercolor and the arts for over 30 years as an artist and educator. From Quincy University, where she received her BFA, she went on to teach art in both Missouri and Illinois. She owned and operated a frame shop and gallery in Quincy and later in Downers Grove. Hennessy is a signature member of the Illinois Watercolor Society, the Missouri Watercolor Society, the Taos National Society of Watercolorists, the Watercolor Honor Society, the National Watercolor Society. She serves on the Board of Directors of the Illinois Watercolor Society and the Watercolor Honor Society. Hennessy has had solo exhibits at the Oesterle Gallery at North Central College and at the Union League Club of Chicago and exhibits regularly in both regional and national juried exhibitions. Currently, she has her studio in Chicago where she lives with her husband. Teresa Silva is curator of the Campus Art Collection at the College of Architecture & the Arts, University of Illinois at Chicago. Her writings have appeared in Museums & Social Issues, by Left Coast Press, Inc. and PROOF, an experimental UIC MFA thesis exhibition catalogue. She was the curatorial associate at the Jane Addams Hull-House Museum from 2009 to 2011, where she organized Unfinished Business: Juvenile Justice together with community activists and artists. Currently, she is collaborating to create an exhibition about the history of black incarceration in the United States, which will be presented in October 2012.

Exhibition: March 17th-Apri 30th, 2012
Opening Reception: Friday, March 16th, 7-10pm

Park Schreck Gallery is proud to announce the upcoming show Grid Systems, featuring work by Alan Salabert and Danielle Monet Morse. Opening reception will be Friday, March 16th from 7-10pm. Work will be on display through April 30th.

Alan Salabert work comes from an architect’s sensibility. Cool, Minimalist, and intricate. Alan’s paintings have amazing color and balance. His work is incredible on its own or in groupings.

Danielle Monet Morse was referred to us through mutual clients. Her work combines a dark fluidity combined with vibrant colors. Danielle’s diverse spatial and color sense is rarely executed in such beautiful abstracts.

“Exploring Axis Mundi: The Still Point At The Center Of The Turning Universe”
New Paintings and Drawings by Jason Brammer

Details of Event: “Exploring Axis Mundi: The Still Point At The Center Of The Turning Universe”, a solo exhibition by Chicago artist Jason Brammer, opens at Firecat Projects on Friday, February 24th from 7-10pm. The exhibit will debut a new series of mixed media paintings and graphite drawings inspired by symbology, alchemy, and spiritual iconography. At the core of the show is the concept of Axis Mundi (meaning, “axis of the world”), which has been thought of as a portal between the earthly and heavenly realms in various religious and mythological traditions. Reflecting on these themes, Brammer has blended geometric shapes and patterns, flowing organic tendrils, esoteric symbols, and all-seeing eyes into compelling visual tapestries with paint and pencil. In addition to the opening reception, Brammer will be at the gallery on Saturday, March 10th at 2pm to chat about his art and creative process. See Jason Brammer’s artwork at www.jasonbrammer.com.

March 2 — April 20

Public Works Gallery
1539 N Damen Ave, 2nd Floor
Chicago, IL 60622

Opening

Friday, March 2, 2012 – 7-10pm

I Made This For You is an internal declaration that can be translated to the world outside of the artist. Through his use of repetition, Matthew Hoffman’s newest work transforms exuberant designs into quiet meditations of assurance. Working primarily in his wood shop, Hoffman uses his most recent work to form a tide break against the waves of negativity in the world around him. His wood cut shapes recreate handwriting to embody his colloquial and witty quips. The writing is light, airy, and often incorporates vibrant colors, drawing you in like shiny pieces of candy. Matthew began his career under several aliases, each with a unique medium. His elusive work under the name Sighn and his Multipolar projects were well received and allowed him to explore different materials, discern and develop his message, and hone his craft to lead him to where he is now.
